The article presents the role and principles of operation of the insurance sector within the financial system, and the sector's ties with the entire social and economic environment. The author focuses on the nature of economic insurance in agriculture and evaluates it as an instrument of agricultural policy. He also presents two concepts justifying the need for the state's more active engagement in the sphere of agricultural economic insurance
