The breeding bird communities in the fields with maize on the Dravsko polje in northeastern Slovenia
1999
Vogrin, M. (Orehova vas (Slovenia))
Qualitative research on breeding birds was carried out in four fields with maize located in agricultural area of the Dravsko polje in northeastern Slovenia. In total, the presence of 8 species was estimated, the five of them beeing considered as the endangered ones. The density of birds in the fields studied ranged from 1.45 to 6 pairs/10 ha. The differences between fields according to bird biomass is not significant (Kruskal-Wallis test = 2,67, df = 3, P 0.05). The density of birds breeding in the studied agricultural study area was very low compared with densities of some other areas in Central Europe, e.g. forests, parks and meadows. Number of species and bird density were not dependent on the area (r = 0.88 and -0.42 respectively). Bird density was not dependent neither on the relative edge length (r = 0,65, P 0.05). However positive and significant correlation (r = 0.97, P 0.05), was found between diversity index (H') and number of species.
