Development trend analysis of production and economic parameters of sugar beet - sugar vertical in Slovakia

After deep crisis there has been a favourable development in the chain of sugarbeet - sugar in the Slovak Republic since 1995, as it also follows from the analysis of development trends, the production and economic parameters and an increasing self-sufficiency in sugar. In Slovakia, a new situation is being developed and a greater stress must be laid on the qualitative production parameters, which requires a decrease in sown areas (approximately to 35 ths/ha) and an incnease in hectare yields (43-45 tons per hectare), with a sugar content of 15.5 to 16.0%. The tariff protection of the domestic market as well as production of competitive sugar for the internal marker and part export will be fundamental requirements. Our possibilities and the results obtained need to be harmonized with the EUTs requirements, which could signficantly contribute to the stabilization of all Slovak agriculture
