Productivity and technological quality of winter wheat hybrids in early generations after crossing
1999
Rychtarik, J. (Vyskumny Ustav Rastlinnej Vyroby, Piestany (Slovak Republic))
In the hybrid progenies of F1 and F2 generations from varieties Lutescens 2836473-1 and Obrij, Hana and Selekta arranged according to the system of incomplete diallel crossing, the level, stability, and corellations between the traits were assessed to be used in the breeding for productivity and technological quality. Experiments were carried out at RIPP PieçSany in 1990 and 1991. Progeny of F1 and F2 generations was sown in the field experiments with parallel inclusion of both maternal and paternal varieties. Field observations were carried out and after the harvest the plant and grain analyses followed (namely the grain number, grain weight in ear, one thousand grains weight, plant height, gluten content, swelling capacity of gluten, protein content, and sedimentation test). The highest level of productivity traits was revealed in the variety Lutescens, and that of technological quality traits in Hana. Successful selection in the combination of productivity and quality traits can be expected especially in the selection from the hybrid progenies of Lutescens/Hana, Hana/Selekta and Obrij/Hana. One thousand grain weight, plant height, wet gluten and protein contents were the most stable traits. Number and weight of grains in ear were negatively correlated. One thousand grain weight and plant height were positively correlated with the traits of bread-making quality
