The effect of humic: substance on crop yield and the accumulation of Cd and Zn in plant biomass was investigated in pot experiment with three soils differ in physico-chemical properties. Three crops were planted - poppy, silage maize, and spinach. The application of humic substance had a positive effect on the yield of spinach biomass while maize and poppy showed slightly reduced yield. The effect of application of humic substance on uptake of Cd differed in crops and tested soils. The strongly reduced content of Cd was found in spinach biomass at all soils. Decrease of Cd accumulation in maize biomass and poppy seeds and capsules was deterrmined on luvisols, in the opposite increase of Cd content in biomass of these crops was found on chernozems. Zn content in plant biomass was increased after application of humic substance. Slight decrease of Zn accumulation in maize biomass showed fluvisols, only
