Effect of varieties and nutritions on chlorophyll (SPAD value) and nitrogen content in spring barley leaves
2000
Uzik, M. | Zofajova, A. (Vyskumny Ustav Rastlinnej Vyroby, Piestany (Slovak Republic))
Field experiments, with five spring barley varieties (Orbit, Amulet, Slovensky dunajsky trh, Kompakt and SK-4410) in the year 1998 and with three of them (Orbit, Amulet, SK-4410) in the year 1999, at different NPK-nutrition (twelve variants of nutritions: level of N-fertilization No - N30 - N90, levels of P-fertilization Po-P20 and levels of K-fertilization Ko-K60) were established in the central part of Slovak Republic. Apart from standard phenological observations and estimation of grain yield and nitrogen grain content, SPAD meter readings and nitrogen leaf content were taken twice in each year (June 16 and July 7 in the year 1998 and June 1 and June 17 in the year 1999). Terms of evaluation, N-fertilization, P-fertilization, variety and interactions terms of evaluation x N-fertilization, terms of evaluation x P-fertilization and variety x N-fertilization had significant effect on variability of SPAD meter readings. Growth stage had higher effect than year on SPAD-values. N-fertilization increased SPAD-values in all terms of evaluation. In the year 1998 the portion of SPAD-values in the second term of evaluation rose in comparison to the first one with increasing nitrogen fertilization. The effect of P-fertilization was opposite, SPAD-values were higher in early growth stages and lower in later ones. In both years strong positive correlations were found between nitrogen leaf content and SPAD-values (r = 0.950++, r % 0.919++), between SPAD values and nitrogen doses applied at N-fertilization (r = 0.933++, r = 0.901++) and between nitrogen leaf content and nitrogen doses (r = 0.947++, r = 0.941++)
