Phytoindication in the area on the smelters in the Orava region in the period of their operation

Research on accumulation of heavy metal elements (Pb, Mn, Zn, Fe, Cr, Cu, As, Co, Ni) in assimilatory organs of the model species Corylus avellana L. in the area of 2 smelters in the Orava region (NW Slovakia) in the period of their operation was conducted. Concentration of allochtonous elements in the plant material is given in the tables 2-6. Emergency doses of heavy metal content were enormously exceeded in the very adjacent sites at the both smelters (transekt 1: localities 1, 4), emission impact was evident in the radius of approximately 3 km from the plants. Increased concentration of the 6 metal elements at the locality situated more than 11 km from the smelter in Istebne (transekt 4: loc. 7) was probably caused by another factors
