Local food consumption behavior and nutrient intake of housewives in Kanchanaburi province

Local food consumption of a high nutrient value is a method which help to save family expenditure and to have good nutritional status. The purposes of this research were to investigate the local food consumption behavior and energy and nutrient intake of housewives. The subjects studied were 100 housewives chosen by the multistage sampling in 5 districts of Kanchanaburi Province. Data were collected by interviewing questionnaires and analyzed by using the SPSS program. The outcome revealed that most subjects prefered to eat pork, egg and fish. The favourite vegetables were cucumber, ivygourd and string beans. Favourite fruits were papaya, guava and pineapple. The preferable dishes were kaengpa, fried vegetable, namprik, fried fish and boiled vegetable. Energy and nutrient intake from local food were of a high level. The outcome hypothesis was that when housewives had a high local food consumption behavior, energy carbohydrate and protein intake from local food would be consequently high.
