Effects of free or restricted access to water on milk yield in dairy cows

In the present study, effects of frequency of water intakes on milk yield, water consumption and feed consumption in Holsteins were investigated in an experiment of replicated 3 x 3 Latin square design. The experiment carried out on 6 dairy cows. Drinking water was available as (i) free access, (ii) two times daily in bowl for about 10 minutes each time and, (iii) two times daily in manger for 1 hour each time. Water consumptions in experiment groups were 88.67, 66.34 and 73.68 kg/day/cow, respectively. Differences between groups were significant (P0.05). Milk yields in experiment groups were 15.66, 14.87 and 14.82 kg/day/cow and, total mixed ration consumptions were 21.27, 20.36 and 20.59 kg/day/cow, respectively. But differences were not significant
