Energy conservation programs at Shakarganj

Shakarganj Mills located at Jhang, Pakistan initiated energy conservation programs. The main thrust of the program was to accurately measure steam consumption in every section by installing accurate flow meters and other instruments to economize steam where its use appears to be excessive. Another aspect was strict control over the boiler combustion efficiencies and trying to get as efficient combustion of fuel in the boilers as possible. Electricity consumption was also monitored and power factor improvement plants were put into operation. The programs and the results obtained have been described in this paper.
