Study on the method of a compact soil preparation in the soil bin was undertaken. Soil used for this first experiment was clay soil. The compaction was applied on a layer of 18 cm thickness soil with the help of a roller. The roller was pulled by a tractor. The moisture contents of soil were 16.7, 21.3, 23.9 and 26.1 percent (db). The results showed that the optimum moisture content to get high bulk density was found to be 23.9 percent (db). At this moisture content the dry bulk density of the soil was 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 g/cubic cm when the soil was compacted with 3, 6 and 9 passes of roller, respectively. Another soil used for the second experiment was clay soil with higher percent of sand. The compaction was done at different soil moisture contents of 13.2, 16.0 and 17.1 percent (db). The dry bulk density of soil was constant at 1.5 g/cubic cm as the number of roller passes increased when the moisture content of 17.1 percent (db). The dry bulk density was 1.6 g/cubic cm after 3 passes of roller and it was 1.7 g/cubic cm at 6 and 9 roller passes. Two models of rotary tillers were also designed and constructed. Both of these are center drive. The power was transmitted through a chain drive. The width of cultivator of the first prototype is 550 mm and number of blades are 16. The width of cultivator of the second prototype is 650 mm and number of blades are 18. For both models c-shaped blades were used.
