Productive and reproductive performance of four Landrace strains at National Swine Research and Training Center

Performance of 4 Landrace strains were studied at NSRTC using 4*2 factorial in CRD. There were 4 levels of strains and 2 levels of sexes conducted in 8 replicates. Records were kept from 20-90 kilograms pigs' body weight. Pigs were slaughtered at 90 kilograms to evaluate their carcasses. Strains had a highly significant effect on average daily gain, feed conversion ratio, back fat thickness and lean percentage. Sexes had a highly significant effect on average daily gain and feed conversion ratio. Interaction between strains and sexes had a highly significant effect on lean percentage. Reproductive performance were analyzed by Least Square using data from 1988 to 1993. Strains had a highly significant effect on number of piglets born alive, and had a significant effect on number of piglets born, number of piglets weaned and weight of piglets weaned. Season had a highly significant effect on age at first estrus, age at first farrowing and weight of piglets weaned, and had a significant effect on number of piglets born, farrowing interval and conception rate. Parity had a highly significant effect on weight of piglets weaned, and had a significant effect on farrowing interval.
