Detail study of groundnut bud necrosis virus isolate

Detail studies on groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) isolate collected from various hosts and locations in Thailand were conducted. This included the reaction of isolates to 4 monoclonal antibodies (kindly donate by Dr. J Poul from ICRISAT), the reaction to anti GBNV-Indian isolate (i) and Thai isolate (GBNV LS1), and physical properties. The peanut isolates shared some similarities within the group and were quite distinctive from that of the tomato group. They reacted to all or almost all of the MABS and gave a stronger reaction to anti GBNV LS1 than to anti GBNV-I. In addition, they had a higher thermal inactivation point, larger dilution end point and longer longivity in vitro. It may be concluded at this point that the tomato Thai isolates are more closely related to the peanut Indian isolates while the peanut Thai isolates are rather different. From field observation, Thrip palmi a major GBNV vector of Indian peanuts was found in high number on Thai tomatoes while Scirtothrip dorsalis was the only species found in Thai peanut. A stronger reaction to anti GBNV-I than to GBNV LS1 of the tomato isolates may as well support such conclusion.
