Peanut yield loss assessment relation to peanut bud necrosis virus
1997
Woothisak Butranu | Montien Somabhi (Khon Kaen Field Crops Research Center (Thailand))
Experiments aimed to evaluate peanut yields at the different levels of the PBNV existed in the field during harvesting. The studies had been done in both wet and dry seasons in the experiment station and farmer fields. Peanut cultivars, Khon Kaen 60-1, Khon Kaen 60-2, and Tainan 9 were grown in wet season in 1994 whereas only cultivar Khon Kaen 60-1 was grown in dry season 1993-94. Each experiment was split into insecticide application and non application plots. In wet season PBNV in the fields at Khon Kaen Field Crops Research Center and Maha Sarakarm Field Crops Experiment Station were seldom. Only few diseases could be observed in the farmer fields and the peanut yields were not significant different. Among peanut cultivars, Tainan 9 gave 464 kg/rai of dry pod yield at 0 percent disease infection level. Pod yields from 1-10 percent, 11-25 percent, and 25-40 percent disease infected level plots were 445, 429 and 391 kg/rai respectively. Compared to no disease infected plots yields were reduced 4.09, 7.53, and 15.73 percent. In cultivar Khon Kaen 60-1, the yield had been reduced 6.87, 9.85 and 17.61 percent. Similarly in Khon Kaen 60-2 yields were reduced 5.47, 4.50, and 7.07 percent. In dry season, dry pod yields from the different disease levels were significantly different in all locations in both insecticide application and non application fields. In the insecticide application fields, where the disease levels were 1-10, 11-25, 26-50, 51-75 and 75-100 percent the yield had been reduced 2.02, 11.40, 21.79, 31.75, and 37.81 percent comparing to no infection plots (783 kg/rai). Yields from non insecticide application plots were reduced to 6.85, 8.11, 1.33, 23.78, and 35.67 percent when compared to no infected plot (476 kg/rai).
