In the experiment, control chicks received intraperitonealy (i.p.) 0.2 ml PBS, while experimental chicks received cyclophosphamides i.p. 4 mg per chick daily, cyclosporins A two times daily subcutaneously (s.c.) 55 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) or dexamethasone s.c. 5 mg/kg body weight daily, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day of age. On the 4th day the total count and differential relationship of leukocytes in chicks peripheral blood were determined. The results obtained show that in chicks treated cyclophosphamides and cyclosporins A a total number of leukocytes, due to considerable decrease of number of heterophiles and especially lymphocytes decreased in relation to values in control chicks (P0.001, P0.01) while in chicks treated dexamethasone, due to increased number of heterophiles, there is a moderate increase of total number of leukocytes (P0.05). The results of these investigations, as well as the findings of other authors suggest that cyclophosphamides, cyclosporins A and dexamethasone, besides other effects, decrease, in the first place, proliferation of T- and B- lymphocytes, that is, they react immunosuppressively on the immune system of chicks.
