For estimation of mode of inheritance and combining abilities for some sugar beet tap-root traits were used 4 multigerm pollinators (2 diploid and 2 tetraploid), 4 monogerm cms lines and their 16 F1 progenies. Five tap-root traits were analyzed: tap-root weight, crown weight, crown diameter, tap-root length and dry matter content. Mode of inheritance for all traits was assessed by evaluation of hybrid's vs. parent's mean. Combining abilities were assessed by line x tester approach. For inheritance of tap-root weight and length and crown weight and diameter we detect heterosis, while for dry matter content inheritance we obtain partial domination of one parent. Good specific combining abilities (SCA) had progenies where one parent had good general combining ability (GCA) and another one low GCA. Obtained rate of additive and dominant variance showed that for all traits dominant genes had greater influence, except for dry matter content where we detect significant additive gene effect.
