Characteristics of newly released vegetable cultivars

In 1998, the Federal Varietal Commission of Yugoslavia registered eight vegetable cultivars developed at the Research Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad (Yugoslavia), namely the pepper cultivars Vranjska and Una, the tomato cultivars Backa and Alparac, the been cultivars Maksa and Belko, the winter lettuce cultivar Anuska and the radish cultivar Verica. In the Commission two and three-year trials, all these newly released cultivars produced considerably higher yields than the standard cultivars. They also outperformed the standards with regard to most other traits, such as growing season lenght, fruit mass and grain mass, fruit shape, dry matter content, plant height, fruit colour, and others.
