Investigation of the effect of the initial grain moisture content on the energy balance of the cereal crops

Ivanov, D. | (Institut po Mekhanizatsiya i Electrificatsiya na Selskoto Stopanstvo, Sofia (Bulgaria))
It was found that the increase in the initial moisture content from 16 to 25% lead to a reduction in the positive energy difference on average by about 620 MJ/decare for the versions in conditions with irrigation and whithout irrigation, and by about 1.55 MJ/kg per unit of produce in approximately the same ratios for conditions of irrigation and non-irrigation. Referred to the grain under non-irrigation conditions, such reduction constitutes as an energy loss 31% of the total energy gain, while referred to the grain under conditions of irrigation it amounts to 28%. The increase in the initial moisture content with the maize from 16 to 34% leads to a reduction in the positive energy difference on average by about 1320 MJ/dka for the versions under conditions of irrigation and non-irrigation. The reduction is by about 2.92 MJ/kg per unit of produce. Referred to the grain, such reduction constitutes as an energy loss 49% of the total energy gain, i.e. every single percentage of higher initial maize kernel moisture content leads to a reduction in the total energy gain by about 2.7%.
