The Jizerske Mts. Belongs to the most damaged areas in the Czech Republic. To improve the stand vitality the liming with dolomite limestone was used in the 80s, and fertilizing with liquid fertilizers in the 90s. The health state and nutrition state of stands were observed on 17 limed, fertilized and control plots. Nutrition content was analysed in the composite samples of the first needle age class, crown defoliation was evaluated by the ICP-Forest method always in the autumn. During 1991-1998 the defoliation statistically significantly differed on the controlled plots and fertilized ones. Also the difference in content of magnesium and calcium in needles was significant. On the other side the ameliorative measures did not influence sulphur content in needles. Both liming and fertilizing with liquid fertilizers remain very important measure in this area that ensures vitality enhancement of forest stands, compensates the input of acid substances and provides the deficient nutrients.
