The aim of this study was to compare growth rate of juvenile barbel fed two dry commercial diets with different contents of proteins and lipids under controlled conditions. The initial barbel total length and body weight were 50.6 mm and 1.01 g, respectively. Two dry diets, catfish feed ALMA 6408 (51.66 % of crude protein, 14.73 % of fat) in group A and salmon feed ALMA 6008 (46.99 % of crude protein, 10.41 % of fat) in group B, were used. No apparent differences in fish growth were found between the goups. The final total length and body weight were 64.3 mm and 2.05 g in group A and 63.4 mm and 1.91 g in group B, respectively. Survival rates of 100 % were recorded in both groups. The results of this study show that juvenile barbel can be successfully reared on suitable dry diets under controlled conditions. The barbel optimum dry diets content is between 45-50 % of crude protein and 10-12 % of crude fat. The higher level of basic nutrients promoted no significant rate of barbel growth.
