Plant nutrient balance

Nutrient balances for the macronutrients nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for agricultural production systems in the Czech Republic and other Europe countries are treated with special emphasis on fertiliser consumption, livestock manure application and crop nutrient off-take at different levels of aggregation (i.e. experimental plot, field, crop rotation, farm, regional and national). The different methods (farm balance, stable balance, field balance, OECD soil surface balance, PARCOM balance) show that there is an urgent need to harmonise the methods of nutrient balancing in order to present data in the international comparisons. The results of nitrogen balancing in the OECD countries show considerable differences in fertiliser consumption, manure application, crop yields and N balance surplus development in the years 1985-1997.
