In 1999 the effect of foliar fertilizer (Calcium nitrate + Ferticare 6-11-31) on the plants and total yield was tested. The effect of winter straw cover on the beginning of the growth of shoots was studied as well. The arctic bramble starts rapid growth with the first warm days in April, and the following night frosts in May often damage the young aerial shoots. The plants that start growing later can escape the frost damage. The straw cover laid on the usual plasric cover turned out to be effective in delaying the beginning of the growth of aerial shoots and thus increasing the yield. The influence of foliar fertilizers on the plants was studied by measuring the content of macronutrients in the leaves. In our preliminary tests the content of macronutrients was not significantly affected by the application of foliar fertilizer. No clear increase the calcium content the berries was observed either. The berry production was significantly affected by both the combination of cultivars and foliar fertilizer used in the experiments
