First year vegetative growth of raspberry as a response to different types of mulching

At the Polli Horticultural Institute, an experiment was established in autumn 1998 with 4 mulches: black plastic, sawdust, peat (made thin by milling), and straw; control was soil surface without mulch. The preliminary results of 1999 year stated that the black plastic mulch provided good plant growth and arising more suckers from the roots of the parent canes. From two cultivars in the experiment, the 'Tomo' was more vigorously affected the mulches than the 'Novokitaivska'
