The effectiveness of different metamitron doses in a mixture with phenmedifam, desmedifam and ethofumesate for controlling various species of weeds was investigated in the field trials. Metamitron increased the effectiveness of mixture of phenmedifam and ethofumesate by 57-76 per cent in controlling short-lived weeds. The action of metamitron for most species of weed control did not depend on its doses. It was noticed thaat by reducing the rate of metamitron from 3500 g a.i. ha (-1) to 1400 g a.i. ha (-1) the number of Galium aparine L., Lamium purpureum L. and Veronica arvensis L. has increased. The herbicides investigated did not have any negative influence on growing and development of sugar beet. The mixtures of phenmedifam, desmedifam and ethofumesate with metamitron significantly increased the root yield of sugar beet as compared with mixtures without metamitron
