The spreading and abundance of the twospotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) depend on the cultivation technology

In the recent years the twospotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) has been widely spread in the strawberry plantations due to his adaptation ability, due to acquired resistance to chemical means of pest control. In the present work the abundance and spreading of twospotted spider mite depending on the technology of strawberry cultivation was estimated. The favoured hibernation place of the twospotted spider mite was the black plastic mulch and the mite appeared in plantation about two weeks earlier, and they developed and spread faster, than in case the straw mulch was used. The straw mulch acts as an heat isolation restraining the warming of the ground, and by that reason the spidermite emerge later from their hibernating places, besides, their development, the change of generations and the spreading occurred at a slower rate. The pyrethroids Mavrik 2F and Karate EC 5 killed the larvae and adults of mite, however, the eggs were not affected, and therefore the treated population was soon restored. The twospotted spider mite has perished entirely by the renovation of strawberries in the plantation
