Repeated treatments of atrazine and other triazines worldwide have favored the extension of triazine-resistant biotype of Senecio vulgaris L. (common groundsel) in orchards and vineyards.Aproximatelly 30 years ago, the first case of triazine-resistant biotype was reported in the USA.In Hungary during the past 25 years 7 weed species were identified as triazine-resistant biotypes, but no resistant common groundsel were observed up today in our country.Poor control of groundsel by atrazine has been observed for the past few years in vineyards of Heves county and at the same time the extension of the species.Samples have been screened for resistance to atrazine in greenhouse doserate trials.Percentage survival and greenweight (freshweight) of survivors were recorded and compared to untreated plants.Greenhouse studies with common groundsel (Senecio vulgaris L.) revealed a biotype which proved to be resistant to atrazine.
