Mannan oligosaccharides' effects on performance reviewed
2001
Pettigrew, J.E.
The data available to date suggest strongly that adding MOS to the diet of starting pigs improves their performance. The improvement is especially large and consistent where growth rates are at levels often found in commercial production. The best approach seems to be feeding a high dietary level of MOS in the first post-weaning diet and then gradually reducing the level as the pigs grow. The data on finishing pigs allow the possibility that MOS may improve growth performance, but they do not show it clearly. There is experimental support for the use of MOS to improve the health and performance of nursing pigs under a disease challenge.
