In order to prove the possibility of single basal application to surface broad-casting, the yield component, grain quality and protein content of rice were investigated under several amount of fertilizer applications. Results are summarized as follows (1) However the single basal was applied for surface broadcasting, high lodging resistance variety, as "Toyama No. 36" and "KINUHIKARI" didn't lodge. (2) By single basal application, the number of grains per square meter was more than yields by the split application. Nevertheless, the yield was almost the same in both application method, as the percentage of ripened grain and thousand grain weight of single basal application were less than that of split application. (3) In case of single basal application the grain length and width became smaller than those of split application, so thousand grain weight became light in result. (4) By reducing single basal application to 60 to 80 %, the yield and grain quality were almost equal to thos
