The effect of supplementation of rice straw on lactation performance of high-producing dairy cows

Six high producing dairy cows were used in a double 3 x 3 Latin square design to evaluate the effect of three rate of rice straw in the diets on feed intake, milk production, milk composition. The basic roughage in the diets was Italian ryegrass. There was not a difference among treatment in DM intake. TDN and crude protein contents in diets tended to be lower as rate of rice straw increased, and satisfying percentage of TDN and crude protein were lower on 10% rice straw rate than the other treatment. Milk production was decreased by the supply of rice straw. The decrease of and protein content were high on 10% rice straw rate, however there decreased hardly on 5% rice straw rate
