Artificial inoculation on shoots of Japanese plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.), their hybrids, and several cultivars of other Prunus species was carried out to determine the resistance to bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. pruni from 1993 to 1995. 'Ozark Premier', 'Frontier', 'Sordum', 'Honey Heart', 'Nepal plum 85-233', 'Redglow' and 'PM-1-4' were highly resistant to stem canker. High correlation rate was obtained between lesion length caused by inoculation and rating of symptom in natural infection. The rate of resistant seedlings was high in the progenies when a resistant cultivar was used as a parent. Differences in the level of resistance to stem canker were also observed in peaches, apricots and Japanese apricot cultivars
