The present experiments were carried out as research on breeding for resistant melon varieties to powdery mildew. We investigated the degree of infecting commercial varieties (they had been considered resistance before) at fields, identified the race of Sphaerotheca fuliginea and screened of resistance materials. At five of six fields, commercials varieties of melons were infected with powdery mildew. The symptoms were much severer at two fields than the others. Then we identified the isolate with Sphaerotheca fuliginea race 2 according to the symptoms of their indicator plants. 'Roran L' and 'KM' manifested remarkable resistance in the results of seedling inoculation and their fruits were high quality. Therefore they were considered the most promising breeding sources
