Ecological studies of Corynespora leaf spot of Perilla and the screening of effective chemicals

Both the symptom with brown or black spot in the leaf of perilla and the symptom with the rotted stem on the ground side, which brought damage to the perilla in Aichi prefecture, were diagnosed as Corynespora leaf spot of perilla. Small brown spots (about 1 mm) were observed on the upper leaves, and larger black spots (1 to 10 mm) usually were observed on the lower leaves and the harvested leaves. However, when the humidity condition continued for a long time, the occurrence of black spots were observed on the upper leaves. Residue of the diseased plants grown previously seemed the main source of primary infection, and the diseased fallen leaves and the leaves which was picked and lost below seemed the source of secondary infection. The effect on the disease of fludioxonil, iminoctadine tris (albesilate), azoxystrobin, and kresoxim-methyl were high as the chemicals for control
