The experiments were performed with Latvia Breed growing pigs of the same (2 month) age, with body weight 26.0+-0.40 kg. Two groups (control and a group fed Sapromin) were selected, consisting of 14 animals (7 female and 7 male pigs) each. Pigs received mixed feed as a basic. Additional mineral premix Sapromin (SIA "Dobele") produced from lake sapropel (sediments consisting mainly of decomposed organic matter) was mixed in the basic feed as 6.5% of dry matter. Nutrient composition was determined for raw meat cuts from one side of 6 carcasses, taking 3 boars from each group. By morphological composition of the carcass, considerable differences among groups were not observed, but the muscle-eye area was 9.7 cm**2 larger for pigs which received the mineral premix Sapromin (P0.05). The chemical composition of meat showed that the mineral premix feed increased slightly the content of crude protein and decreased the content of crude fat.
