2000
Abaja, B. | Fabiola, A. (University of Southern Mindanao, 9407 Kabacan, Cotabato (Philippines). Dept. of Plant Breeding and Genetics)
The result of the study revealed highly significant differences on computer grain yield and other agronomic traits. The check entry (Pioneer 3014) still obtained the highest yield with 7.635 t/ha. It was followed by entry number 46 and 37 with the grain yield of 7.055 and 6.690 t/ha, respectively. Analysis of variance on some agronomic traits like days to 50% silking, days to 50% tasseling, plant height, ear height, ear diameter, kernel row per ear, and plant aspect were not significant. Highest heterosis on mid-parent and high parent in grain yield was noted by entry number 46 (Line 42 x S6 x 14 sub 8) with 62.68% and 55.51%, respectively. In ear height entry number 17 (Line 11 x USM Var 5) with 29.4% and 26.03%, respectively. Entry number 15 (Line 10 x USM Var 5) with 13.55% and 13.10% on plant height. Selected topcrosses with high grain yield and gave good heterotic effect will be used in a hybrid program or in synthetic variety formation
