Concrete blocks (50 x 50 x 15 cm) were deployed monthly at the denuded portions of the Sargassum bed at the intertidal and subtidal zones of Trinchera, Bolinao, Pangasinan. Preliminary observations showed that more germlings were recruited on the blocks deployed in August to November compared to those deployed in July, December and January. The highest number of recruits appeared in the November blocks which coincided with the fertility peak of most Sargassum species at the site. It is also observed that the blocks deployed in the months of October and November (36.29 and 87.75) in the intertidal area have higher recruits compared to those in the subtidal (2.33 and 36.29). In contrast, the blocks deployed in the subtidal area in August and September showed higher number of recruits (52.96 and 32.68) than those in the intertidal (20.66 and 9.37) area. This is attributed to the early development of populations in the subtidal area. These observations showed that the rehabilitation and establishment of a Sargassum bed is feasible as long as fertile populations as source of Sargassum germlings are present in the area
