Community structures of chaetodontid fishes and their spatial correlation were investigated throughout the province of Negros Oriental. Visual fish surveys, standardized by the ASEAN-Australia LCR Project, were conducted in 21 stations along the entire coastline. Twenty-nine species of chaetodontids were observed representing six genera: Chaetodon (20 species), Heniochus (4 species), Forcipiger (2 species), Coradion (1 species), Chelmon (4 species) and Hemitaurichthys (1 species). Chaetodontid fishes and their spatial correlation were investigated using ordination analysis (CCA-Cononical Correspondence Analysis). The main clustering were distinguished by using a divisive technique called TWINSPAN (Two-Way INdicator SPecies ANalysis). Data showed a distinct north-south pattern in the distribution among sites. It is hypothesized that the monsoons may have affected the distribution. The northeastern section of the province is characterized by the area of Tanon Strait which is affected by the northeast monsoon, while the southern section is facing the Mindanao Sea, open to the southwest monsoon
