The present study was conducted to evaluate the performance of oat cultivars under different environmental conditions of Balochistan. Six cultivars of oat were evaluated on the basis of plant height, number of tillers, number of leaves put plant green fodder yield and dry matter yield during 1996-97 and 1997-98 at ARI Sariab, farmers field at Sibi and cattle farm, Hub. The results revealed that oat varieties Sargodha-81 (S- 81 and PD.2-LV.65 were found superior than other varieties by producing taller plants, more tillers per plant and maximum leaves per plant. The cultivars produced maximum green fodder and dry matter yields than all other varieties tried in this trial at al, locations. It was concluded that oat cultivars Sargodha-81 and PD.2-LV.65 provided a better compromise of green fodder and dry matter yields. Thus oat cultivars Sargodha 81- and PD.2-LV. (S were found suitable for different irrigated areas of Balochistan for obtaining higher green and dry matter yield to over come the fodder shortage during the period of scarcity.
