Comparison on the levels of AFB1 in corn and peanuts between ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent) Afla-Check products using from UBE Industries, Ltd. and TLC (Thin layer Chromatography) methods revealed that ELISA was able to detect AFB1 from 36 samples at concentrations lower than 4 ppb in 20 minutes. TLC method detected AFB1 at 25 percent level from samples with concentrations higher than 40 ppb in 8 hr compared to 100 percent level observed using ELISA. The Results indicated that ELISA could be accepted as a procedure to detect AFB1 levels, the only limiting facter was due to the requirement of antibodies. The research was continued on producting monoclonal antibody of AFB1. Facilities and personel needed for developing ELISA method of AFB1 were appropriate, only the duration and the accuracy in detecting AFB1 level were being further investigated.
