Effect of gamma ray on growth and bulblet production of lily in vitro

When inner middle and outer scale of lily : Apeldoorn x Enchantment (AEM52) Mont Blanc x Enchantment (MEM8) Prominence x Connecticut King (PCM2) Festival Medaillon Mont Blanc and Red Night were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium with 1.0 mg/l kinetin 0.1 mg/l NAA and 60 g/l sucrose, All parts of bulbscale were grown and produced many bulblets from adaxial side of scale. Mont Blanc produced a maximum of 9.96 bulblets per scale whereas Medaillon produced a minimum of 3.71 bulblets per scale within 1 month. After gamma ray irradiation at 0 3 and 6 gray were used on bulblets of 7 varieties of lily in vitro, LD50 of inner scale of AEM52 MEM8 PCM3 Festival Medaillon Mont Blanc and Red Night, middle scale of AEM52 MEM8 Festival Red Night and outer scale of Festival Red Night were more than 6 gray. LD50 of middle scale of Mont Blanc and outer scale of Medaillon were approximately 4.0 and 2.5 gray respectively. The non-irradiated bulbscale had better growth than 3 and 6 gray irradiated bulbscale. After cultured four months, The increasing plant weight of the outer scale of Red Night Mont Blanc AEM52 Medaillon MEM8 and Festival were 2.393 2.275 1.577 1.374 0.594 and 0.427 grams respectively. The 6 gray irradiated bulbscale gave the least effect to increase plant weight. The number of bulblets produced from the non-irradiated bulbscale were greater than 3 and 6 gray irradiated bulbscale. The middle scale of non-irradiated PCM2 AEM52 and Red Night produced 10.00 10.87 and 21.57 bulblets per scale respectively. The outer scale of non-irradiated Mont Blanc MEM8 Festival and Medaillon produced a maximum of 20.33 11.53 11.07 and 5.60 bulblets per scale respectively. All parts of bulbscale from the 3 gray irradiated gave the number of bulblets less than non-irradiated bulbscale. All of the 6 gray irradiated bulbscale could not produce any bulblets except the innermost scale of MEM8 which produced 2 bulblets per scale.
