This research was carried out in Samsun during 1995-1998. Cvs. Tombul and Palaz were used in the research. Seedless nuts or blanks are classified to 5 types according to the appearance, number and size of the ovules, aspect of funiculus and existence of internal fiber. The length of ovules of the blanks were found to be 0.5-2 mm, undeveloped, which were equal to 25.9 % of cv. Tombul and 34.0 % of cv. Palaz. One ovule with two embryos (twin kernel) were not found during this study. Rate of blanks and shrivelled kernels were significantly lower in cv. Tombul than cv. Palaz. However, the rate of kernel and good kernel were higher in cv. Tombul. Kernel weight was significantly different amongst years and the highest kernel weight was determined in 1995 in which the yield was lowest. There was no difference in the rate of blanks amongst years
