We isolated water molds in pond water from twenty places by baiting on hemp seeds at 25 deg C. A collection of Achlya sp. was selected to study a possibility of using it as a feeding supplement or an animal feed. The Achlya was cultured on hemp seeds containing steriled distilled water pH 6.5 at 25 deg C for 3-5 days. The mycelia was harvested from the hemp seeds and dried at 55 deg C until a constant weight is obtained. The chemical composition of the dried mycelia was studied. C, H and N contents were carried out using Perkin-Elmer C.H.N. corder model 204. Protein contents were calculated based on the value of nitrogen (total N*6.25). The amount of carbohydrate was measured by phenol-H2SO4 method. Amino acid composition of the mycelia were carried out by acid hydrolysis using 6N HCl in a evaluated and sealed tube at 11O deg C for 24 hrs., then analyzed by amino acid analyzer Hitachi model 835. The chemical composition of the mycelia was established as follows: C 45.19 percent, H 6.55 percent, N 7.62 percent protein 47.62 percent, carbohydrate 10.5 percent, ash 8.27 percent and moisture 16.6 percent. Amino acids recovered was 72.2 percent and the composition of amino acids (mg/g) were aspartic acid 36, threonine 19.4,serine 13.9, glutamic acid 43, glycine 16.9, alanine 23.4, cystine 3.3, valine 22.2, methionine 7.3, isoleucine 21.3, leucine 24.3, tyrosine 16.2, phenylalanine 16.8, lysine 24.7, amide amonia 16.0, histidine 7.05, arginine 19.5 and proline 12.5 Tryptophan was decomposed by HCl hydrolysis. The present study suggests that the nutritional values of Achlya is reasonable for feeding animals. We cultivated the Achlya in waste water (rice soup) from noodle factories in order to produce the mycelial mass. As the studied, the Achlya grew very well in rice soup and 3.6 gm of mycelial dry weight per 100 ml of the rice soup was obtained in 5 days of the cultivation.
