Utilization of extruded broken rice starch and extruded full-fat soybean in weaned pig diets

Study of utilization of extruded broken rice starch and extruded full-fat soybean in weaned pig diets was devided into two experiments. Experiment 1. The effect of cooked starch and skim milk powder in weaned pig diets were studied in 48 Large White aged 21 days. The animals were divided into 6 groups of 8 animals. Each group of pigs were randomly fed and experiment diet as following until 56 days of age. Diet 1 : A conventional broken rice-soybean meal diet; Diet 2,3 : Diet 1 but containing 5 and 10 percent of skim milk powder, respectively ; Diet 4 : A weaned pig diet containing extruded rice and soybean meal; Diet 5,6 : Diet 4 but containing 5 and 10 percent of skim milk powder, respectively. The results have shown that average daily gain on diet 1-6 were 0.402, 0.428, 0.430, .404, 0.420 and 0.464 kg/day, respectively. Supplementation of skim milk powder in both cooked and uncooked broken rice diets significantly (P0.05) improved performances of the experimental animals. The use of extruded rice starch did not significantly improve performances of the weaned pigs. Experiment 2. The effect of substitution of extruded full-fat soybean in weaned pig diets were studied in 48 Large White aged 21 days. The animals were divided into 6 groups of 8 animals each. Each group of pigs were randomly fed an experimental diet as following until 56 days of age. Diet 1 : A broken rice-soybean meal-fish meal and skim milk powder control diet ; Diet 2 : A broken rice soybean meal fish meal diet; Diet 3, 4, 5 and 6 : Diet 2 but 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent of soybean meal protein were substituted by extruded full-fat soybean, respectively. The average daily gain of pigs on Diet 1-6 were 0.406, 0.331, 0.339, 0.362, 0.371 and 0.417 kg/day, respectively. The results indicated that increasing substitution levels of extruded full-fat soybean for soybean meal in the weaned pig diets significantly (P0.05) increased performances of the animals. Diet containing 100 percent substitution of extruded full-fat soybean for soybean meal (Diet 6) gave a similar performance of the experimental animals to the diet containing skim milk powder (Diet 1). Increasing the level of extruded full-fat soybean in the diet trend to increasing feed efficiency of the pigs.
