[Influence of potash fertilizers on chlorine circulation in the soil-plant system]

For eliminating the exessive amount of chlorine in surface layer of the soil and chlorine pollution of water sources while using potash fertilizers a chlorine balance is determined by using lysimetric studies. The experiments are conducted on potato fields in Chernihiv oblast. It is stated that the chlorine comes mainly with chlorine fertilizers, manure and atmospheric precipitations. The carry-over with potato yield undergoes changes depending on the forms of potash fertilizers. Using chlorine potash ensures a significant increase in its carry-over with yield. The intensity of the chlorine balance in the variants with potash fertilizers application stood at the range 199-238 %. The potato plants used 14-28 % of the potash fertilizers' chlorine only. Revealing the groundwater pollution was carried out as well. The conclusions are drawn that the long-term application of concentrated chlorinated fertilizer leads inevitably to its accumulation in soil and sub-groundwater. Calculating the balance in the soil-plant system showed that applying potassium permanganate as compared to potassium chloride reduces entering the chlorine into soil by 30-40 %. It is stated that potash fertilizer, including potassium chloride, applied in optimum rates does not create a threat of environmental pollution with chlorine compounds
