Drainage of the huge flood appeared in the spring of 1999 - caused serious load to the canals and rivers of the region. Despite the drainage of inland water is not the function of Eastern Main Canal, it had to be employed for this purpose when the serious flood arrived. Due to the increasing control of the quality and quantity of the inland water, the purification of water at Balmazujvaros was no problematic. Consequently good quality drinking water arrived in the drinking water system of Debrecen.
