Experiment with leek (Allium porrum L.) was carried out in the field conditions, on a cambic soil. The aim of the experiment was to establish relationships among nitrogen uptake, leaf area index and light interception of leek crop. Nitrogen fertilizer, urea, was applied in amount of 250 kg of N/ha: before transplanting (250 kg of N/ha + 0) and twenty days after transplanting leek (0 + 250 kg of N/ha). The results obtained show that the second way of nitrogen fertilizer applying had a great influence on leaf area development, dry matter production and nitrogen uptake. Increasement of these parameters directly or indirectly had a great effect on increment of leaf area index and light interception of leek crop.
