A two-year experiment on the effect of drip and furrow irrigation on tomato yield and water usage for irrigation was conducted in 1998 and 1999. The experiment was conducted for early, summer and late tomato production. The obtained results show big advantage of drip irrigation in comparison with furrow irrigation because higher yield with less water usage is reached. The yield of tomato irrigated with drip irrigation is 27-95% higher in comparison with yield of tomato irrigated from furrows. Evapotranspiration in drip irrigation is 40% lower in comparison with furrow irrigation. The reach same yield with furrow irrigation 83-182% more water is used with furrow irrigation in comparison with drip irrigation. The opportunity to save water by using drip irrigation is very important environmental issue.
