The study shows the investigation results of the soil fertility and content of some harmful elements (As, Cu, Zn and Pb) in the soil of the territory of Bor (Serbia, Yugoslavia). The investigations included the samples from 10 land registry municipalities of the region of Bor, being situated on various distances from the source of pollution. The analysed soil have an acid pH reaction. The content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and humus is similar an all land registry municipalities, both endangered and unendangered ones. The content of Zn and Cu is in permitted limits, while the greatest problem in the healthy food production is the presence of As and Cu whose amounts are beyond permitted limits in some of the investigated samples. With some agrotechnical and melioration measures it could be possible to sanate the existing state, prevent further soil degradation and create conditions for production of healthy food.
