Botrytis species are important plant pathogens. Botrytis cinerea is the most common pathogen from this genus isolated from more than 230 host plants. Enzymes degrading the host tissue and phytotoxic metabolites secreted by the fungus are considered as very important in the pathogenesis. This article gives a survey of metabolites with possible phytotoxic action. The discussed metabolites are classified in the following groups: sesquiterpenoids, polysaccharides, organic acids and miscellaneous other secretions. Their biological activity and plant pathological importance is discussed.
