[Rapeseed cakes in dairy cows nutrition (Pt.2)]
2002
Hlasny, J. (Vyzkumny Ustav pro Chov Skotu, Rapotin (Czech Republic))
The article summarizes the use of rapeseed cakes in dairy cows nutrition. The influence of glucosinolates on the function of thyroid gland is presented. The use of 2.5 kg of rapeseed cakes and 0.5 kg of rapeseed meals by dairy cow and day is cheap and leads to good productivity and low occurrence of mastitis, metritis and pododermatitis. The concentration of glucosinolates in this ration (25-30 micromol/g of rapeseed cake) does not lead to the hypofunction of thyroid gland. Nevertheless, it is recommended to maintain a standard iodine concentration in the ration and to control the concentration of thyroxine and triiodothyronine in the blood. The concentration of tocopherol in the blood serum of cows fed rapeseed was superior (about 16 micromol/L) in comparison with control cows (about 10 micromol/L).
