This review article presents a new point of view on a "well-known" contagious disease dealing with post mortem findings, therapy, and assessment of vaccination efficacy. The disease is characterised by an atrophy of nasal conchae due to the irritation of the cells by Bordetella bronchiseptica dermonecrotic toxin. The disease is usually treated by sulfonamids, sometimes in combination with antibiotics. Application of efficient types of vaccines 6 and 2 weeks before parturition and the use of all-in all-out system in rearing growing piglets may substantially reduce the occurrence of the disease.
